STEM 3700MELB - STEM Internship

Melbourne Campus - Semester 2 - 2025

This internship course is designed to provide students with a hands-on professional experience, allowing them to observe and apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their degree. Students will spend 120-150 hours working in a range of sectors, engaging in project-based tasks, or contributing to the daily activities of the host organization. Opportunities for remote internships, facilitated through digital tools, are available to align with the hybrid working models of host organizations. The course aims to build and apply broad, personal skills relevant to workplace settings, complementing the discipline-specific knowledge gained during the coursework. It includes training in career development and employability skills, enabling students to produce original work that highlights their analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities. In addition to gaining practical experience, students will develop an appreciation for the importance of lifelong learning, professional reflection, and building industry connections. By engaging with professionals, they will strengthen their networks, boosting their confidence and enhancing their ability to contribute meaningfully to the workplace. The internship begins with a preliminary half-day seminar focusing on career readiness and professional preparation. Students can either apply for university-advertised internship opportunities or source their own. Placement is subject to the availability of a host organization, a successful application, and completion of all required paperwork. Final enrolment is managed by the Internships Team after securing an approved internship. Successful completion of the program to the satisfaction of both the host organization and an academic supervisor is mandatory to pass the course. For inquiries regarding the internship process and timelines, students are encouraged to contact the College Services Advisor team at collegemelbourne@adelaide.edu.au
